Ray Bradbury-Blog Post #1

As technology continues to grow rapidly each year and new discoveries are being made, we as a consumer are grateful for those advancements, but there’s also that fear of when it will become too much. In “The Veldt” and “There Will Come Soft Rains’ ‘ carry a heavy notion about the consequences that involve that usage of Advanced technology. Both readings go with the setting being a more futuristic point of view with both of them being equipped with high technology that control the house. In “The Veldt” it shows the house with advanced technology and a room that creates a reality experience. Throughout the reading the author makes it known that the family has grown too dependent on the home features and have forgotten how things were before. The characters in the reading who have become tremendously adjusted to all of those tools are the children. In the reading it mentions the children disagreeing with their parents about having to go back to doing basic skills.

But one thing that has truly affected the children would be the nursery room, where they become obsessive of that room as it shows a dark fantasy.  It brings an unsettling feeling to the reader as the parents get more worried about their children’s actions and the room itself. Although it is too late due to the children being unchecked and have already grown attached to the room and could care less about the parents. It brings up the topic of how much control AI should have and allow them to replace human interactions. We see that happening as the children start to grow a deep resentment towards their parents trying to limit their access to the room.As we reach towards the ending where it leaves off with the parents going in the room and not coming out, it gives the readers a cautionary tale about the usage of AI.

In contrast there’s the difference in “There Will Come Soft Rains” with the setting being post-apocalyptic and not having a single human character in the reading. As well, the atmosphere of both readings are quite different. The house’s increasingly futile attempts to maintain its routines fall way to the inevitable degeneration brought on by the lack of human interaction. In the reading it gives a loneliness and quiet atmosphere, due to the fact that there are no humans that would’ve responded. All in while it is depicted that humans have been wiped out due to war.The absence of people is shown when the  automated system is doing the routine setlist while no one is confirming back those requests. The message of this story is to realize that AI can surpass human life due to the provocations we cause to each other, leading to certain destruction and end of human life.

Both stories from Rad Bradbury come with the different impacts that advanced technology can cause to society. All the more, the ability that AI has to surpass and continue on without us.

  1. You’ve provided a thoughtful exploration of the themes by delving into the consequences of advanced technology.

Your introduction effectively sets the stage by acknowledging the gratitude for technological advancements while highlighting the underlying fear of it becoming too much. This sets a tone for readers to understand the dual nature of technological progress.

You’ve done a nice job comparing the futuristic settings of both stories, emphasizing the high-tech features controlling the houses. This helps readers grasp the common thread of advanced technology in both narratives.

You’ve successfully contrasted the post-apocalyptic setting of “There Will Come Soft Rains” with a focus on the loneliness and quiet atmosphere. This adds nuance to your analysis.

Consider exploring further how the advanced technology depicted in both stories impacts society as a whole. Ask your readers “How do think these technological elements affect not just individuals but the broader community?” to create more engagement.

Given your mention of the children’s resentment towards their parents limiting access to the room in “The Veldt,” delve into the broader theme of human-AI interaction; this is another good place to engage your reader by asking them something like – “What do you think this reveals about the potential pitfalls of advanced technology in interpersonal relationships?”

Consider breaking down longer paragraphs for improved readability. This can help create a more visually appealing structure for your readers, as well as adding links to readings.

Overall, your analysis shows a strong understanding of the themes in the stories. Keep up the good work.
